The pub is being taken over by the multi-millionaire philanthropist Colin Taylor, who runs the Foresters Arms. A company owned by Mr Taylor has begun the process of securing a taverner’s licence for the Union. An application was due to be made tonight to a St Helier parish assembly seeking a recommendation to the Licensing Bench that Beaumont Public House (Jersey) Ltd be granted the licence. Mr Taylor said that providing everything goes to schedule, it is planned that the Union will open for business under his direction on 21 September. ‘We shall run it in exactly the same way we run the Foresters, where all profits go to the William and Helena Taylor Trust,’ he said.
