Consumer Council chairman Deputy Alan Breckon is also organising next month’s anti-GST rally in the Royal Square, which he hopes thousands of people will attend. GST is due to be introduced next April to raise £45 million a year in additional revenue for the States. All goods and services will be taxed at 3%, with a few exceptions, including medical supplies. But Deputy Breckon has been accused of ‘misleading the public’ into believing that there are alternative options open to the States. He is intending to submit the petition to the States with a report and proposition asking for the introduction of GST to be deferred while further financial alternatives are investigated.
