Three inquiries on child abuse

The investigations – a mini-departmental review, an independent investigation and a committee of inquiry – follow allegations by Health Minister Stuart Syvret that standards of child protection are falling short. But the announcement has provoked a furious response from the Senator, who says that his colleagues are using the situation ‘as just one more ground for attacking me – rather than giving me full support and telling deficient individuals in the child welfare sector where to get off’. After yesterday’s Council of Ministers meeting, a statement was released announcing the three-stage review.
