Deputy Alan Breckon believes that plans to rezone land in six parishes to build 450 homes for over-55s and first-time buyers are ‘a knee-jerk reaction’. He says that the States should carry out a full survey of all households to find out exactly what is needed before any land is rezoned. ‘I think we are rushing into this and taking the easy option,’ he said. ‘We’ve never really had a housing survey, we have just relied on market economics. We need a profile of the population and we need to know what we are doing and make sure we get it right.’
