PC Sean Osmand is on trial charged with 38 counts of accessing registration plates for ‘non-police purposes’ between June 2004 and May 2006. Defence Advocate Christopher Lakeman said Osmand applied for a job as sergeant in February last year and was given a glowing reference by shift inspector Richard Brée and a ‘lukewarm’ one by Chief Inspector Shaun du Val. Deputy Police Chief Lenny Harper took to the witness stand yesterday for the prosecution. Advocate Lakeman asked if it was normal practice for someone who is under covert investigation to be allowed to apply for a promotion. Mr Harper said Mr Brée was unaware of the investigation and that although Mr du Val was aware of the situation his reference of Osmand was of a ‘lukewarm fashion’.
