Yes it was a comfortable win and all our batsman played well; I was the only one to hole out! ‘Andy fell two runs short of a deserved half-century and he had great support from Ralph Anthony and a cameo innings from Steve Birkett who hit five fours and a six.
‘We fielded well despite dropping opening batsman Mike Watson twice.
Mike went on to carry his bat and both catches came off Mike Kinder’s bowling so he was unlucky because they were easy chances really.
‘Ralph was also the pick of our bowlers with four wickets, he turned the ball quite a bit on the slow wicket, yes the wicket was condusive to a bit of spin.’ The CI’s Over-50s next match is against Hampshire at Grainville on Monday 2 July.
Meanwhile the top two teams in the Division II of the NatWest Evening League were both defeated last night.
Leaders St John were thrashed by Rathbones OVs at FB2, by 87 runs, while second-placed Walkovers were beaten by ten runs by Jersey Academicals at Les Quennevais.
The two victors both took 15 points while St Helier RFC went one better to claim a maximum 16 points after openers Dean Morris and Lee Kent both hit half-centuries in a victory against bottom-placed G4 Securicor at FB3.
There were three wickets apiece in four over spells for Colin Rotheram and teenager Ben Searson, the former for 32 runs and the latter for 23.
Victoria College 1st XI player Will Golder hit an unbeaten half century for Rathbones OVs including three 6s and four boundaries.
Bradley Vautier retired on 50 for Walkerovers while Gareth Bailey top-scored for Jersey Academicals with 34 including one 6 and four 4s.
