Carol Canavan, who is honorary secretary of the Jersey Law Society and consultant to Crill Canavan, could chair the inquiry into why fields 848, 851 and 853 in St Lawrence were allowed to be developed by Dandara in the face of massive opposition. Mrs Canavan previously chaired the inquiry into the Trinity landfill planning application. The States agreed with a proposition by St Lawrence Constable Geoffrey Fisher in May to set up the inquiry after it was revealed that even the Environment Minister Freddie Cohen, who approved the application, opposed the scale of the development. In a proposition published today Mr Fisher also proposes two other inquiry members. Peter Cameron, former director of building firm Camerons Ltd, and David Watkins, the former Island director of Lloyds bank. The Treasury and Resources Department have put aside £15,000 for the inquiry, which will begin later this year.
