Albert Bartlett – a UK-based vegetable distributor – have announced that they are uniting independent farmers who, they claim, have been ‘pushed out of business’ by the Jersey Royal Company, which currently controls 90% of exports from the Island. Managing director Ronnie Bartlett said that the Jersey Royal Company cut off their links with his company in March and now he plans to market Jersey Royals independently in the UK. But Jersey Royal Company managing director Tom Binet has accused Albert Bartlett of wanting to steal the Jersey Royal brand. ‘We withdrew from dealing with Bartlett in March because we were suspicious about their intentions for the future,’ he said.
