At a public meeting into the town masterplan drawn up by consultants EDAW, ministers spoke against any suggestion that the market should move to the Waterfront, as suggested by the president of the Chamber of Commerce this week. The proposal prompted the immediate launching of a petition which has already been signed by several hundred people and it was clear last night that there is little, if any, political support for the move. Issues about the Central Market and another St Helier landmark, Fort Regent, dominated last night’s meeting at the Town Hall.
