Education, Sport and Culture and Jersey Tourism have already offered their full support and Chief Minister Frank Walker is eagerly anticipating the event, saying that this will put Jersey on the world map in terms of cricket.
‘I think it’s absolutely sensational news,’ said the Chief Minister.
‘Cricket is taking a very impressive step as it moves onto the international stage and I think it will act as a springboard for other sports and for young people’s involvement as well.
‘I’m a great cricket fan and looking forward to watching the tournament – I wish them every success,’ he added.
Also impressed by the securing of this event was Director of Tourism David de Carteret who noted that while it is still ‘early days’ his department have offered their full support.
They have already agreed to meet and work alongside the Jersey Cricket Board to help make the most of this opportunity.
‘It’s a very high profile and important event that is capable of bringing many participants and supporters as well as raising Jersey’s profile and status as a place to visit and play sport,’ said de Carteret.
‘We already have a fantastic reputation as a sporting location and now we will look to add to that – this is very exciting for us.’ Education Minister Mike Vibert said: ‘I think it’s fantastic news for Jersey, Jersey sport and Jersey cricket in particular – it shows how a sport can be developed in the right way and benefit the whole Island.’ ‘I met the two international ICC representatives when they were over and assured them that Island gives support for what the JCB are doing.
‘We will now help in whatever way we can and liase with other states departments to aid economic development through tourism and support the opportunity to raise Jersey’s international profile Senator Vibert added: ‘It gives Jersey’s cricketers something very high to aim for as there’s no reason that in the future we couldn’t try and emulate a country like Ireland’s foray into cricket’s World Cup.
‘I just hope the weather will be nice! It’s a great opportunity for the Island to show itself in the best light.’
