Owner David Manning had applied to build the 111-square metre shed in his garden to store tools and a tractor, but a planning applications panel has decided that it would be too big. And in a double blow to Mr Manning, the applications panel are also going to investigate whether he has flouted planning guidelines by creating a number of temporary structures in his garden. Field 1007 was the subject of one of the longest planning applications in history. For more than three decades, Mr Manning tried to gain permission to build a house and a headquarters for his haulage business there. He finally won the right to build on the field – next to the former B & Q site – after a campaign led by the late Senator Vernon Tomes.
