A new record amount of £101,000 was raised last year with 2,000 Islanders swimming 20,000 laps, equating to over 600 miles. Since the first Swimarathon in 1972 over £2,100,000 has been collected in sponsorship. After 36 years the annual event has become so popular that the Lions Club of Jersey have added an extra day and allowed more teams to enter this year. Lion Peter Tabb said demand to swim in the event had grown steadily.
