Allan Smith accused the States of paying nearly £65,000 for a survey which ignored facts to justify political calls for a Tesco or similar-sized operator to come to the Island. Mr Smith was speaking at a scrutiny hearing into the retail strategy at St Paul’s Centre last night chaired by Deputy Geoff Southern. He said that the Experian report was carried out in secret and was flawed from start to finish. It was ‘appalling’ and should have no bearing on any decision about whether a new supermarket chain should be allowed into the Island, said Mr Smith.
