The 2006 Jersey Social Survey said that between 5% and 10% of adults – up to 5,000 individuals – have serious issues with alcohol and that young men and women are by far the worst. The survey shows that more than a fifth of Islanders have failed to remember what happened to them after a night out, and that one-in-ten have been injured or have injured somebody else while drunk. The survey, by the States Statistics Unit – which is now in its second year – reveals how Islanders feel about a range of issues, from lifestyles to Sunday trading to road works, and from traffic problems to pensions. More than 3,500 households were selected at random in July and August 2006 and around 45% of forms were returned to the department.
