The Amateur Swimming Association is being asked to consider using the sea off Jersey to prepare for the first games to be held in England since 1948. Vice-president of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club Charlie Gravett believes the Island’s bays and coastline are the ideal place for British swimmers to prepare for the 10 km open water swim event that will be staged at the London games. ‘The Island’s sea temperatures are generally one or two degrees centigrade higher than they are off the British mainland. They offer a more realistic competitive temperature for an event that will be held in Britain than a training camp in Cyprus would, for example.’
