Senator Frank Walker said that the number of cigarette butts blowing around town was ‘simply unacceptable’ and has called for immediate action. He has told Transport Minister Guy de Faye to sit down with the Constable of St Helier and their officers and work something out. On Monday, Deputy de Faye said that he did not have the staff to send cleaners to every location where there was mess. He said that if he did other areas would go completely uncleaned. Constable Crowcroft said that the parish was prepared to take on the job of sweeping the streets, but would need to be given either money or men from Transport and Technical Services to do it. However, no money has been forthcoming.
