Under changes proposed by the Constables Committee, the 56 Centeniers – ten in St Helier, six in St Saviour and four in every other parish – would split into four groups. Each group would be elected for a three-year term of office at nine-monthly intervals, stealing a march on the current composition debate for Senators, Constables and Deputies. The change would be a revolution for the 12 honorary police forces which together comprise the oldest police force in the world. The Constables hope that it will help them avoid parishes being fined by the Royal Court for failing to fill vacant posts. In practice, elections for the posts are rare.
