Deputy Guy de Faye warned that Transport and Technical Services did not have the men or the money to go around sweeping up after them. In many places, therefore, the mess was left to blow around in the wind. St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft said that the parish was prepared to take responsibility for street cleaning, but would need money from the States. So far, that money has not been forthcoming and some of the worst affected streets have remained unswept for days. Deputy de Faye called on pubs, clubs, restaurants and workplaces to provide ashtrays outside their premises and for smokers to be more responsible.
