Michael Birt was speaking during a hearing yesterday when brothers Matthew (18) and Ben Phillips (22) were brought before the court for failing to complete their community service orders. The orders were made by the court when the pair were sentenced for a break-in they had committed in March 2005. Matthew Phillips breached his order in August last year and Ben fell foul of his order one month later. Mr Birt asked Crown Advocate Nuno Santos Costa why it had taken four months to bring the pair back to court but the advocate had no answer. ‘It is not satisfactory,’ said Mr Birt before asking Advocate Santos Costa to report his dissatisfaction to the Attorney General. The court spared the Phillips brothers prison and gave them an extra seven months to complete their community service orders. But they were warned that if they reappeared before the court they would be sent to La Moye Prison.
