Archery official Steve Jacobs, of the Jersey Archery Society, said this week that he expected only recurve to be included but it has now been confirmed that both disciplines will take place in India.

Tony O’Sullivan, whose 16-year-old daughter Lucy recently finished a magnificent third in the Junior World Championship in Mexico, said: ‘This is fantastic news for both disciplines, I was aware of it because India held a Youth tournament there last October.

‘Lucy shoots compound and she is keen to take part in the Commonwealth Games whether it be for England or Jersey.

‘England are expecting to take a team of four, male and female, in both disciplines, obviously dependent on funding.

‘The current qualifying criteria for England is 1,360; Jersey have yet to decide theirs.

It’s a few years away yet and Lucy has time to improve on her personal best of 1,352.

Compound is not an Olympic sport but it is expected to be a demonstration sport at the London 2012 Olympics.

Compound is when the archer is aided by pulleys on the bow.

Meanwhile, Beaulieu student Lucy has a busy year ahead with GCSE examinations and a string of major shoots planned in the United Kingdom.

A Grand Master Bowman, the teenage star currently holds an incredible 27 records in British competitions and two in Europe.
