Detailed plans have been submitted today to the Planning Department for a reduced scheme on the former Les Pas land following a public outcry against the original skyscraper proposals.

Dandara went back to the drawing board for their Castle Quay site and have taken the towers off phase one of the development at least – phase two could include a tall building if the public and Planning warm to the idea in the future.

But the highest point currently being proposed is eight storeys.

The new designs have received the approval of renowned British architect Sir Michael Hopkins, who was appointed as ‘waterfront supremo’ by Environment Minister Freddie Cohen to ensure that all new design on the site is of a high standard.

The new scheme includes a ‘ground plain’ of public areas, gardens, an amphitheatre and restaurants – most of it covered and protected from the elements, including a central winter garden with restaurants off it which Dandara Jersey managing director Martin Clancy says will fill a niche for Islanders to ‘chill out’ in.
