The Budget and changes to the Income Tax Law to bring in ‘20% means 20%’ tax for middle income earners dominate the Order Paper for this week’s States sitting.
Members will debate the first Budget since ministerial government replaced the committee system a year ago, with Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur proposing tax rises for families earning more than £60,000 per year and duty increases beyond the rate of inflation.
Senator Le Sueur also revealed today that States spending next year will rise by a ‘disappointing’ 5.7%, but promised that it would level out to an average 3.5% over the current economic cycle.
