The lunchtime symposium at Jersey Museum aims to break the silence surrounding the disease and reduce the stigma associated with it.

Organisers Acet hope to encourage politicians to take the lead in promoting joint business, community and government action.

The Council of Ministers are due to attend and the event is sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank, a founding member of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/Aids.

Rosemary Ruddy, of Acet, said that the public sector had traditionally not considered the private sector a partner in either public health strategy setting or implementation.

‘That view is rapidly changing,’ she said.

‘All over the world business is partnering governments, multi-lateral organisations and communities to support the global fight against HIV/Aids.’
