The owner of the Eleonora, built following the original plans of Westward’s American designer Nathanael Herreshoff, visited the Island for the first time this week to find out more about the inspiration behind his own elegant vessel.
And retired Swiss banker Zak Zbynek, who bought Eleonora last year, said he would love to bring the replica through the pierheads at St Helier as Westward used to over half a century ago.
Mr Zbynek was joined in Jersey by Halsey Herreshoff, the grandson of Nathanael and veteran of five America’s Cup races.
The two sailed together on board the 49.5m yacht over the summer and Mr Herreshoff, who last came to Jersey nine years ago for the opening of the Maritime Museum, suggested the trip to Westward’s spiritual home.
