The current average cost for prime office space of £26 per square foot compares particularly favourably with central London, where the average is £70 per square foot.

But it is also cheaper than in Guernsey, where the average is around £30 per square foot for the same kind of property.

A comparison carried out by CB Richard Ellis shows that, of 12 centres, Jersey is the third cheapest, taking into account property tax and service charges, only marginally more pricey than Luxembourg City.

Dublin is the third most expensive on the list, followed by Guernsey, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Bristol.

Of the UK cities only Liverpool is cheaper than Jersey.

According to Property Week prime office rents in Mayfair have gone up by over 40 per cent in the last two years.

Bill Sarre, director of CBRE in Jersey and chairman of Jersey Business Venture, said: ‘I understand that other costs, such as labour, can be higher, but I think we should be reassured by these figures.
