The European under-19 championships will be staged in Jersey in July while Guernsey are to host the inaugural European U23 second division championship in August, which Jersey have applied to compete in, against Italy and either France or Gibraltar.

Up to eight European countries are likely to play in the U19 championship, including Belgium, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Israel, Italy, Guernsey and Jersey.

The Channel Islands’ individual cricket boards, Jersey and Guernsey run separately, have come a long way already since being accepted as International Cricket Council members just 17 months ago – Jersey in particular having reached the European Division II championship final in Glasgow last August when they were pushed into second place after being beaten by Norway in the final by 49 runs.

Jersey staging an ICC European Division tournament is another tremendous boost for Island cricket as the Jersey Cricket Board continue to make great strides towards associate membership, their application which will be considered at the ICC’s annual general meeting next July.

Jersey have also applied for to take part in the Division II under-15 championships in Spain at the end of next August.
