And the local game is in good shape to do so.

Nick Dotter, President of the Water Polo Association said: ‘This year’s league, which for the first time had five teams, has been the best league of my memory – the quality of the games and the standard has been very good.’ The Collins Stewart League wound up this week with Customs beating Banks 18-5 to take third place while champions International Tigers brought the curtain down at the AquaSplash by beating a ‘Best of the Rest’ team 10-7.

Tigers, beaten only once this season, secured the win with the help of an outstanding performance by Captain Nat Snook who scored seven goals.

Snook described it as: ‘the best game of the season.

I didn’t think we would beat them, but it was a very tight match and a very tough game and goal keeper Andy Lewis was outstanding.

‘We’ve had a very good season and it’s not been easy – we’ve been pushed by a few teams this year.’ In the earlier match Banks were favoured them to win, but it was Customs who had the better start and took an unexpected lead, going ten nil up in the first quarter.

With an outstanding performance from captain and man-of-the-match Daniel De Olivera, who created a lot of the scoring opportunities, Customs were unstoppable and they took third place with an 18-5 victory.
