The Transport and General Workers Union has also raised concerns about the effect on the jobs of staff who, under States proposals, could be transfered from Jersey Harbours to the Transport and Technical Services department.

The union said that although staff are worried about their jobs they are more concerned about an exercise being carried out that they believe is unnecessary and ‘an utter waste of taxpayers’ money’.

Union official Nick Corbel said Jersey Harbours’ staff are currently working from a fully equipped workshop at La Collette, specifically designed to meet the port’s requirements.
