Having been in third position on Saturday the former Victoria College student told the JEP that he was going to take a big tactical decision.
That appears to have paid off – big time – with the more northerly route he has chosen taking him smoothly into the lead.
Sharp is now 12.8 miles ahead of second place Gildas Morvan and 70.4 miles ahead of third place skipper Dominic Vittet.
That was by no means the Island’s only great sporting news over the weekend, with only the U21 Muratti defeat against Guernsey’s footballers at Springfield, and the Island side’s exit from the Hockey Association Trophy casting a cloud over Jersey’s sporting fireworks.
The footballers went down 4-1 in front of around 700 spectators while the hockey lads went agonisingly close, losing away to London Wayfarers 7-6 on penalty flicks following a 3-3 draw after extra time.
Leonis Amateur Boxing Club built on their away win over a New Jersey Select with a 6-3 home win at Hotel L’Horizon on Saturday, the Credit Suisse Badminton side registered their 19th straight inter-county victory at the New Gilson Hall, the Island’s netballers impressed home and away, while Jersey Rugby Club ended their barren run of away defeats with a big victory against Beckenham in London South Division II.
And Kenny Horton scooped the top prize of £1,000, in the Seabird Hotels Jersey Darts Open.
The Island’s men’s volleyball team recorded their first victory in the South West League by beating Devon Kernow, 3-0 yesterday, while our senior netballers go from strength to strength, retaining their undefeated record in the South West Regional Division with a thumping 60-32 victory over the Navy, in front of a large crowd at Langford.
Jersey’s U19 netballers also performed well, only narrowly missing out on the quarter-finals of the National Club Championships in Bournemouth.
