Nine of the school’s lower-sixth girls and four boys from De La Salle College will make the trip in July at the end of the school year.

Organised in association with World Challenge, the trip will be offering support to the Side By Side scheme.

Beaulieu’s head of geography, Kirstie Walker, said: ‘The communities we are visiting are twinned with the Island via Jersey Side By Side.

We will be doing community work at the Foundation of Goodness School which will include language work, sport and art, and I will be doing teacher training.

‘Everyone on the trip will be A-Level geography students so we will match the community work with geography field work for A2.’ Before the students make the trip next year, they have a lot of preparation work to do, including fund-raising.

‘The trip is costing the students £1,999 each and they are responsible for raising all of the funds themselves,’ said Di Cherry from World Challenge.

‘Having to raise the funds themselves means that the students get so much more out of the trip.

It is definitely not a holiday.

It is a developmental experience and a real expedition.’
