Marathon event ‘could run and run’

Speaking after his own 5.7-mile leg in the relay part of the race yesterday, Senator Philip Ozouf said that the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon was a fantastic community event and could be yet another way of putting the Island on the map internationally.

Thousands lined the route to cheer on the 1,200-or-so runners who took part in almost perfect clear and cool conditions.

Around 300 competitors from places as far apart as the UK, France and Africa took on the challenge of the 26.2-mile event.

The remaining runners joined teams of five to run around five miles each, and there was also a 3-km fun run, mainly for the youngsters.

The event is expected to raise thousands of pounds for charity, with the main beneficiary being Headway Jersey, which supports those affected by brain injuries.
