The new income support system, which encompasses a range of existing benefits, will start next summer but Social Security Minister Paul Routier has today launched an eight-week consultation exercise on how it should work.
It will top up income to a set level – with money added according to different components – but claimant households will have to include someone with five years’ residency and claimants will have to be in work, too sick to work, actively looking for a job or looking after young children or sick relatives.
If they have more than five years’ residency but have been away from Jersey, they will have to spend as much time back here as they were away before regaining eligibility, under the proposals.
