Jersey’s golfers won the Ronez Challenge, for the third year in a row, in convincing fashion, beating Guernsey’s finest 16-4 at La Moye over two days and Geoff Ramskill also lifting the CI seniors individual matchplay title; Jersey Spartan showed considerable strength in depth all round to comfortably beat Guernsey IAAC overall at Foote’s Lane, also for the third successive year – with the men winning their category for the first time in nine years.
Sporting Club Fran?ais’ cricketers completed a superb season, and gained some revenge for the Island’s inter-insular setback, by travelling to beat holders Cobo by seven wickets and lift the KPMG Channel Islands KO Cup for the first time in the new format, though they have previously won the Upton seven times.
Four Jersey football clubs, St Paul’s, Grouville, Trinity and Jersey Scottish KO’d Sarnian teams in the Wheway and Jeremie Cups, while the Island softball enjoyed a whitewash of visiting Guernsey teams in both Uptons and inter-insulars.
It was not all joy for Jersey, however, as on a UK level Jersey RFC had an early 18-7 reverse away to London Irish Amateurs in their opening London South II campaign, but even then Guernsey had little crow about, as they also went down in their opening match in the division below.
