At the third public planning applications panel meeting, two out of the three panel members gave their support to the development of three-bedroom houses in Field 91 off Grande Route de la C?te.

The field is in the built-up zone, but attracted strong protests from parishioners who felt it should be left as open space.

States Members agreed, however, that the field was zoned correctly and an application by G R Langlois to build the homes was approved at yesterday’s public meeting.

Both panel chairman Deputy Richard Dupré and panel member Deputy Anne Prike gave their support to the application, although St Peter Constable Tom du Feu said he could not give it his approval.

He was unhappy about the close proximity of one of the homes to the site boundary, and had concerns about the entrance to the new estate.

He voiced his concerns after St Clement Constable Derek Grey and parish residents Senator Len Norman and John Egré addressed the panel.

The Constable said: ‘Because of the amount of development happening in the parish there is more traffic as well as a good deal of heavy goods vehicles going along that road.

People are finding it very difficult at times to get in and out of their properties safely.’
