The Royal Court heard yesterday how Clark Taljaard (31) put his hand on the girl’s mouth and ignored her cries as she pleaded with him to stop, telling her: ‘It will be all right.’ At the time Taljaard was working as a painter and decorator and had been living in Jersey for just six weeks before the attack last October.
The following day he made plans to flee Jersey, telling friends that his father had had a massive heart attack at home in South Africa.
His victim had returned home alone after a night out with friends in the early hours of 17 October when Taljaard approached her.
