They completed a sporting double on Saturday when they beat the Perchard clan by 43 runs at the Farmers’ Field to add to their footballing victory at Christmas.

Skippers Joel Richardson and Jonny Perchard had trawled the phone book to find enough of their namesakes to turn out teams.

And eventually they both managed to field 11 fit members of the Island family dynasties – with an age range of nine to 55 and including one girl in Jenny Perchard.

The result was hardly in doubt after Jonny won the toss and put the Richardsons in to bat – which proved costly as openers Nick and Clive set about the Perchards’ bowling.

Nick hit the top score of the day of 74 not out and Clive pitched in with an unbeaten 61.

The Perchards are an old St Martin-based family who have traced their roots back to a 13th century Mont Orgeuil bowman.

The Richardsons are also predominantly Easterners.

There has been a 20-year tradition of an inter-family football match at Christmas, but this was the first time they have clashed on a cricket field.
