The parcel of land, which is within the Belle Vue housing estate at Les Quennevais, was originally earmarked for a 60-bed residential home and doctor’s surgery to be built by Health and Social Services.
But the department decided it no longer needed the care home and Planning and Environment have been asked to sell it, with the permission for the home still attached.
As the planning laws have changed since granting permission for the care home, planning officers are also investigating what other types of property could be built on the site, which is 2.2 acres in size and lies to the south of St Brelade’s football club.
But Deputy for St Brelade No 2 Sean Power said: ‘I think this is a mistake and I will oppose the sale of this site.
I therefore intend to lobby for the retention and development of this site by Housing to be used to create sheltered housing units.’
