Wood and cardboard boxes were stacked behind McDonald’s at around 2 am on Saturday and three youths were seen running off.
One was carrying a burning object.
The Fire Service were called and managed to put the blaze out before it had spiralled out of control.
But station manager Clive Russell has branded the arsonists as ‘breathtakingly stupid’.
He said that people’s lives had been put at risk.
‘To set fire to something at 2 am against a building where people live is breathtakingly stupid.
Lives were put at risk.
‘Luckily we arrived before the fire spread through a window and into the building.’
