Pisces Amateur Boxing Club’s former ‘Pocket Rocket’ – twice an ABA finalist during his time in the Island, will take on Dave Stewart for the vacant title in the York Hall, Bethnal Green.
The fight, rich reward for an all-action, strong body-punching pugilist, who now has the nickname of Macho Man, will be televised on Sky TV.
Salford-born Meager (28), who was coached by Brian Rousseau, head coach of Pisces during his time in Jersey, said: ‘I am very confident.
I’m in the best shape of my life.’ Meager has long been a friend of opponenent Stewart, as both are promoted by Hennessy Sports, so is reluctant to indulge in pre-fight predictions, but said: ‘All I will say is that I think it is going to be an exciting fight and obviously I think that I will win.
I believe I can compete at the highest level and this can be start of it.
I’m going to be aiming for the stars.
‘People haven’t seen the best of me yet.
I think its fair to say that I have under performed in the past, but I have really knuckled down over the last few months and my coach Robert McCracken has continued to work wonders with me.’ Meager has suffered only one defeat in his 21 pro fights, a controversial points decision when boxing Danny Hunt at Bethnal Green.
He, and his many fans in Jersey will be hoping history does not repeat itself tomorrow.
