Yesterday they gathered at the site in Rue de la Sergenté with parish Deputies in the hope that Planning will take heed of their concerns.

Spokeswomen Julie Huelin and Diane Canavan have in the past fortnight gathered 400 signatures by going door-to-door around the neighbourhood.

Mrs Huelin said: ‘People don’t want to lose their green field sites to housing development but we have to accept that the decision has been made and these fields have been rezoned for housing.

We know there will be some sort of development there but we want it to be in scale with existing properties, not three-storey houses as proposed, put in front of single-storey bungalows which will not be in keeping with the surroundings and will also take away people’s privacy and light.’ Fields 190, 191 and 192 were rezoned by the States in July 2002.

Developer G R Langlois is in the process of finalising a pre-application development brief for 29 houses on the 4.2-vergée site behind Leonard’s Garage.
