Dairy farmers, consumers and dairy employees are all likely to benefit from a decision by Planning to approve the building of a new dairy at Howard Davis Farm, according to Jersey Dairy managing director Kevin Keen.
The dairy now hope to move from their headquarters at Five Oaks to Trinity by the end of 2008, at an estimated cost of more than £6 million.
The planning applications panel approved the dairy yesterday and Mr Keen said today it was fantastic news.
‘It is a great week,’ he said.
‘We are absolutely over the moon.’ Jersey Dairy still need to get States approval to buy the land for the new building, but Mr Keen said they were confident the States would make the right decision.
‘The States still have to pass the sale of land, and we are hopeful they will be able to do that before the summer recess.
We can then get on and start building and we would hope to complete it within two years.’
