He and triathlon team manager Gary Jones leave for Australia on Wednesday.

But whether he will compete is still in the balance.

The injury occurred when Rogers (41) fell of his bike when a dog ran in front of him a couple of weeks ago.

At the time it was estimated that it would take between four and six weeks to heal – and the Games triathlon event will be staged on the St Kilda foreshore on 18 March.

Said Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey president Martin Hebden: ‘He hasn’t recovered but he will be going – we’re giving him the best chance we can, Ultimately the decision as to whether he competes will be made by the race referee in conjunction with the CGAJ medical people ‘There’s been a great deal of heart-searching all round.

After the thousands of hours of training Tim’s put in he’s obviously desperate to compete so we want to give him the best chance we can.’ Said Jones: ‘Tim’s in good shape and he’s optimistic that he’ll be OK.

His arm’s in a cast but he’s still training and working on his fitness.

He’s swimming in the pool with a plastic bag over the cast and he’s using a stationery bike at the gym for his cycling.’ Rogers’ team mates Scott Pitcher and Paul Clements are already in Australia acclimatising to the heat.

Next Sunday they will be racing in the Luke Harrop Memorial triathlon at Southport, Queensland.
