The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority says it intends to carry out the review following the incorporation of the Island’s postal service as a private company – expected to take place on 1 March.

A similar review was carried out on Jersey Telecom after it was incorporated and as a result price caps were imposed by the JCRA.

Those price caps, which apply to both fixed and mobile services, are up for review from April next year.

JCRA executive director Bill Brown said: ‘An efficiency review is a fairly common step to take after a service like Jersey Post has been transferred to a commercial environment.

Following such a review we may decide to impose price caps if there are efficiencies to be gained.

Mr Brown said that as yet no action could been taken in relation to Jersey Post because of several delays to the incorporation of the service as a private company by the Finance and Economics Committee.

‘Our role is to do what we can to make sure a licensing system is in place.

We have been working quite intensively on it and doing a lot of background work,’ he said.
