Simon Crowcroft and the media have been alerted to the problem by several electoral candidates who have inadvertently sent their campaign literature to those who have died.

They have called for urgent action because of the distress and inconvenience this might cause relatives.

Although it is not clear what the extent of the problem across the Island is, initial inquiries in St Helier have shown it might be more serious than first imagined.

Unconfirmed figures from two residential homes for the elderly supplied by States Members to Mr Crowcroft clearly indicate that the lists have not been kept up to date.
