The trees, weighing over two tonnes, arrived just before 11 o’clock yesterday morning after coming across from St Malo in rough seas.
They are destined for a private garden in St Martin and were ordered from French horticultural company Tuloup Pepinières.
Emeraude Ferries general manager Gordon Forrest said that the Met Office had predicted quite a rough crossing, but staff were on hand to take extra care to ensure the trees arrived with all the olives still attached.
‘We relish transporting these trickier items because it allows us to show the flexibility of our services and our car deck crew enjoy finding ways round the problems,’ said Mr Forrest.
