Seven days ago, the residents of Cinq Chênes described their ‘lives of misery’.

They said that they regularly had their cars trashed, windows pelted with stones and eggs and garden fences set on fire, and they had been physically and verbally abused.

They took the risk of going public with their story in a bid to get the authorities to end their torment.

One week later, they have seen considerable improvements.

The residents have had meetings with Housing, the States and honorary police and the Constable of St Saviour, Philip Ozouf.

Police officers have been in the estate regularly and Housing have issued threats of eviction to some families.

Bob Chellingworth, who led the residents in their revolt last week, said: ‘Since the article on the front page of the JEP on 4 November, the situation at Cinq Chênes seems to have improved, although it is early days yet.

The liaison between Housing, the States and honorary police and the Constable also seems to be moving.
