And it could well have been three, but for heavyweight John McKechnie’s opponent, Ryan Bell of the Apollo Club, being literally saved by the bell.
Conceding five stone to the 6-ft 7-in, 20-st Bell, and trailing on points, McKechnie connected with a big right hand in the third and final round, but there was no time left to register a knockout and the Leonis man lost a majority points ballot.
The decision not to hold this top-of-the-bill encounter over four rounds, the option favoured by the Island boxer, obviously cost McKechnie dear.
The Leonis party, under coach Dave Thompson’s guidance, did enjoy earlier success, however.
Stopped Junior Tommy Noel stopped Ryan Mayne of Exeter with a left hook to the ribs in the second round of their light welterweight bout.
Noel had already forced a standing eight count in round one.
Lightweight Ryan Powell also enjoyed a second round success, against Tim Cardin, having forced two standing eight counts.
Torbay ABC hosted the event.
