Islanders from all walks of life who admired and respected the former Bailiff stood in the church which was lit with bright autumn sunshine to pay their respects to Sir Peter who died last Monday, aged 80.
It was a funeral which Catholic Dean Canon Nicholas France aptly said was not chiefly about sorrow and death but thanksgiving for Sir Peter who had shared, for a while, their journey through this world.
