Michael Le Blancq (56), of Lemprière Street, was also fined £180 by the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after admitting six charges of cruelty.

Police legal adviser Bridget Shaw told the court that in June two german shepherd cross collie dogs, a parrot and a cockatiel were seized on warrant by the police and Animals Shelter staff due to concerns for their immediate safety, health and welfare.

They were taken to the Animals Shelter where it was noted that they were in a poor condition – one of the dogs had lost over six kilos and the other eight kilos over the past six months.

The dogs and birds had been left unattended for at least four days in hot summer weather without adequate water, food or shelter.
