The current occupiers, Ikcon, have opened some space up to another local furnishing retailer, Home Ideas, who for the past six years have been trading from a three-storey converted warehouse in Wharf Street.
Chris Settle, managing director of Home Ideas, said that he had been looking for new space for some time.
‘Before we moved into Wharf Street it was a wine warehouse.
It’s a lovely old building but a bit out of the way, and with no lifts and three floors there’s restricted access for the elderly,’ he said.
‘Our biggest problem is parking.
Some of the things we sell are quite heavy and although of course we offer a delivery service, not everyone wants that.
This building provides extra space for us and enables us to have an area to display different styles of furniture.
But we will still continue to trade from Wharf Street indefinitely.
Home Ideas are part of the Palladium Group, which also runs several bars and nightclubs.
